For Prof. F. A. Porsche, honesty in design was the top priority, and the perfect design should consistently emerge from the function of the product. From this philosophy, he created many timeless design icons, and it all began with the unmistakable flyline of the 911 – a silhouette that still defines the brand today.
He incorporated the DNA of this masterpiece directly into the first product from his design office: the Chronograph I, which revolutionised the watch world in 1972 as the world's first completely matt Black timepiece and caused a great stir.
It was modelled on the low-reflection cockpit of Porsche sports cars and was characterised by its completely Black dial, the Red stop-seconds hand, fluorescent hour indices and the highly anti-reflective crystal for optimum readability. A unique precision instrument that exudes timeless performance and ushered in a new era in watch design with its elegant, simple form and uncompromising function.
The Chronograph 1 – all Black numbered edition, which has been further developed in numerous details, is a tribute to the puristic design of the first all Black timepiece from 1972. Like its revolutionary predecessor, it impresses with high functionality and maximum readability. A unique and timeless precision instrument that gives every second a whole new value and transfers the high quality standards of Porsche to the 'sports car on your wrist'. The timepiece is manufactured in the in-house Swiss factory as a consecutively numbered edition, limited to a maximum of 1,000 pieces per year.
Icons of Time.
To this day, the Chronograph I represents the perfect symbiosis of skilled design and engineering excellence – derived from sports cars and the race track. Since 2022, strictly limited edition models have been created according to this principle, including in collaboration with Porsche car culture communities.
